The Great Amherst Bear Hunt

The Amherst Parks & Recreation Department invites families, children, and community members to join us for a fun outdoor adventure exploring Amherst’s amazing parks and trails!

In July, the New Hampshire Recreation and Park Association (NHRPA) joins the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) in celebrating Park and Recreation Month, a national observance since 1985 that highlights the many ways parks and recreation enrich communities.

Throughout the month of July, Amherst Parks & Recreation will hide clues featuring the Amherst Bear at mystery locations around town. Participants will use the clues to discover the location, visit the site, and recreate the photo while exploring Amherst’s parks and trails.
Each week, participants will also find a special mystery word hidden at the location. At the end of July, all five weekly words can be combined to reveal a secret message!
